Can we harness our emotions at work?

Hey Stoked community —

After twelve months of quarantine, I definitely know myself better. Mid-day walks are good for my brain. Life without hugs sucks. And, while we are not our jobs, the relationships I have with my co-workers (even virtually) make or break how I feel about work.

That’s why, this month, we are focused on why personal work connections matter. We could share all kinds of stats about how strong connections improve output, increase health, and reduce stress (all of which are true). But really, it just feels better.

At Stoked, we think about "connection" as something to cultivate both within yourself and with others. Being connected to yourself allows you to really know what you want, and go after it. It's what gave Stoked's co-founder, Parker Gates, the courage to leave a successful career and step into uncharted territory as a writer. (Go, Parker!). Cultivating connections with others creates an invisible network of support that both holds us up and challenges us; that frustrating balance needed for growth.

Check out these other resources on the importance of connection in and outside the workplace.

Read the latest piece from Emily Callaghan, one of the creators of Stoked’s newest offering, Un-Professional, as she shares how those around her offer the extra nudge of courage she needs to rediscover and reinvent herself.

Watch as I talk about LOVE at work and how it causes us to hold one another to higher standards.

Listen to a Basecamp podcast with Liz Fosslien and Mollie West Duffy (co-authors of No Hard Feelings) as they discuss how connecting to our own emotions can be a valuable piece of your design toolkit.

Thanks for spending some time with us today!

The Era of Leaving Emotion Out of Work is Over

In this video, our co-founder and CEO Anna Love discusses how bringing our whole selves (Love and All) to work can really up each other's game. It changes our sense of responsibility to each other and makes our lives more seamless and less segmented.
